2010 – Our First Year of Blogging in Review

Well, we did it. The Giving Spirit Blog’s inaugural year has ended and we didn’t do too bad!

As we all know, the hardest part of a project is often getting it up and running, and now that we have that behind us, we can look forward to what is coming up in 2011. I’m sure there will be lots of activity and interesting things happening for us to share with you.

WordPress has done a nice job at summarizing our blogging activity so I think it is appropriate to share that summary here as we look back on our first year of blogging.

The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

In 2010, there were 42 new posts, not bad for the first year! There were 64 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 22mb. That’s about a picture per week.

The busiest day of the year was December 20th with 121 views. The most popular post that day was We Passed Out 2,600 Kits This Weekend!.

Where did they come from?

The top referring sites in 2010 were thegivingspirit.org, facebook.com, twitter.com, slashingtongue.com, and mail.yahoo.com.

Some visitors came searching, mostly for tae tae davis, tom bagamane, the giving spirit blog, talking to homeless women, and the giving spirit.

About Us March 2010

The Giving Spirit’s New Blog

Welcome to the new blog of The Giving Spirit. We are excited to be interacting with everybody and we look forward to sharing what we are up to and what is happening in the world of helping the homeless. My name is Brian Coe and I will be the main administrator for our new blog. TGS’ intention with the new blog is to be able to better interact and share timely information with all of our volunteers, donors, and supporters and all who are interested in helping the homeless of Los Angeles. We strongly encourage our readers to leave comments and share their own stories.

Since homelessness always contains a personal story, let me just briefly share the story of how I came to be The Giving Spirit’s blogger. I came across the organization after I decided I wanted to get more involved with helping the homeless, which can always be seen walking the streets of LA. So I did a Google search for “helping homeless LA,” and The Giving Spirit’s website was the first hit. On their site I saw they were looking for people who would want to help them with writing so I got in touch with them and after a couple of meetings – here I am. I am happy to be able to use my interest in studying the social, political and philosophical aspects of poverty to help TGS and the less fortunate who have to live on the streets.

So my story with TGS is a short one so far, but what is the most important is that we can spread the word about the work we are doing here and hope that our efforts reach the greatest number possible.
